SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, Calif. (KION) A text message system introduced by the Superior Court of Santa Cruz County is now available.

The court said users can receive message reminders about future hearings, payment due dates and jury service responsibility. It was first created using a grand from the California Judicial Council late last year and it was expanded earlier this year.

The system was created in hopes that it will help people to remember court-related obligations and prevent people from missing hearings.

“The use of this technology is crucial in this day and age where people expect the ability to use their personal devices to help manage their personal obligations and we are excited to make this service available to members of our community” according to Superior Court Executive Officer, Alex Calvo.

To get text message reminders about hearing dates, users can text their case number to 831-208-5170. It will also provide notifications about due dates for anyone with a plan for paying a fine if the user texts their case or citation number to the phone number.

Confidential cases are not part of the system, so people will not receive notifications about those cases.

When a person is summoned for jury duty, they can text their assigned group number found on their summons to 831-900-4445 or sign up when contacting the court to receive jury service reporting instructions.
