Meet Astro! This 1 and a half year old pit mix is coming from the TAILS K9 training academy working out of the Soledad Correctional Facility, going through 16 weeks of training where he has learned 30 commands and is now ready for his Furever home!

TAILS takes dogs that are scheduled to be euthanized and gives them a second chance at life, taking pride in taking in these dogs that no one wanted, dogs that had been abused, neglected, abandoned, overlooked, or simply forgotten.

Astro came into the program with a confident and energetic stride, which is a rare sight at TAILS. Most dogs received from shelters are fearful and slow to interact with the team of trainers, but Astro has been a ball of energy and very social. Trainers calling him one of the most playful and loving dogs to come through their doors since opening.

Astro bonded quickly to his trainers and they learned new things, like he was microchipped and couldn't be left alone, he didn't trust people would return. He followed trainers everywhere, easily frustrated, and chewed on people when asked to sit still or when getting confused. He constantly acted like he was starved for human contact, sometimes becoming so overexcited by the sight of a person that he became a bit frightening.

With Astro, trainers focused on how to control himself, how to manage his frustration, and most importantly that people can be trusted to not hurt him or leave him alone for longer than he can bear, along with several new tricks sure to impress his new family.
