As wildfires rage, here’s how you can help
MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION)
As the Central Coast and Bay Area is devastated by historic wildfires, many people have reached out wondering how they can lend a hand.
For those looking to help evacuees, giving souls are urged not to bring donations or supplies to evacuation shelters or centers. Monterey County officials say there are not enough volunteers to receive, sort or distribute any donations.
Rather, anyone wanting to donate is encouraged to contact the county for the proper donation sites and volunteer opportunities. More information can be found here.
The county has had to turn away donations that would be better sent to the proper support agencies.
The Monterey County Fire Department also has information about donations and assistance programs listed on its website.
Anyone interested in donating to the fire recovery in Santa Cruz County can make a monetary donation through the Community Foundation of Santa Cruz County's Fire Response Fund.
