SFO American Airlines flight evacuated due to smoke Friday

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (KION-TV) -- Friday afternoon a plane that was boarding out of the San Francisco International Airport (SFO) was evacuated due to smoke in the cabin, according to SFO.

SFO confirmed that at least three people suffered minor injuries but nobody needed medical transportation.

The plane was evacuated and was originally Miami-bound. According to SFO, the plane was taxiing to the gate when flight crews reported smoke in the cabin.

American Airlines issued a statement Friday afternoon that stated: "During boarding of American Airlines flight 2045 with service from San Francisco (SFO) to Miami (MIA), smoke was reported from inside a customer’s bag. The bag was quickly removed by our crew members and all customers exited the aircraft."

American Airlines believe that the smoke was from a laptop within a customer's bag. The San Francisco Fire Department responded to the scene.

"Some customers deplaned via emergency slides, while others deplaned via the jetbridge," said American Airlines. "We thank our crew members for their professionalism and apologize to our customers for the inconvenience."
