Santa Cruz County launches program giving blue check sign to businesses following guidelines
SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, Calif. (KION) A new program in Santa Cruz County is launching with the intention of protecting the community by giving a public health endorsement to businesses following guidelines.
The voluntary program would allow businesses following health and safety practices for staff and customers to get a "COVID-19 SAFER, Blue Check" sign to place near entrances.
“The Blue Check Program is a way to support local businesses while protecting public health,” Economic Development Director Andy Constable said. “Local businesses have been hit hard by the pandemic, and customers want reassurances that business owners are looking out for them before returning to the marketplace. This program helps provide that comfort by assuring businesses follow the best medical advice to prevent the spread of COVID-19.”
To get one of the signs, businesses need to attest that they follow physical distancing protocols, enforce the use of face coverings, limit the number of customers in the store, disinfect shared equipment and other practices. The guidelines are adapted from Appendix A of the Shelter in Place orders. The order has expired, so posting Appendix A is not required, but the new voluntary program shows that businesses are complying with guidelines and providing additional information about the safety of the business.
Officials said the program is open to all businesses in the county. Complaints about businesses in the program not complying can be emailed to bluecheck@santacruzcounty.us. Businesses can sign up for the program here.
