Gov. Gavin Newsom provides update on State’s response to COVID-19 pandemic

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KION)

UPDATE 7/22/2020 12:30 p.m. Gov. Gavin Newsom says California is seeing a record high number of COVID-19 cases.

In a single day, the state reported 12,807 new cases, and the 7-day average is 9,420. On Tuesday, 127,487 tests were conducted statewide. More than 6 million tests have been conducted in total.

The 7-day positivity rate in California is currently 7.6%.

Newsom said the state has distributed 86.4 million N95 masks and 297 million surgical masks.

On Wednesday, California surpassed New York for most COVID-19 cases in the country.

The California Department of Public Health reports that there are more than 400,000 confirmed cases statewide.
