MONTEREY, Calif. (KION) Businesses are taking a hit as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

There is currently a Shelter in Place order in effect in Santa Cruz, San Benito and Monterey counties, so only businesses considered essential can stay open.

To help support businesses that are taking a hit, the City of Monterey and the Monterey Chamber of Commerce have teamed up to make a list of ways to promote local businesses and help them recover when the Shelter in Place orders end.

Here are some things you can do:

  • Order delivery or takeout from your favorite local restaurants
  • Buy gift certificates to local businesses so you can shop local once the community begins to recover
  • Be generous with tips when possible
  • Like, comment, share, follow and put a spotlight on businesses that are open and providing great service
