SALINAS, Calif. (KION) Cardinale Volkswagen Mazda has reached out to news media saying an employee told the company that they tested positive for coronavirus.

Cardinale Volkswagen Mazda said the employee contacted them Tuesday to inform the company.

The health department cannot confirm that the employee tested positive because of privacy laws.

Out of an abundance of caution, Cardinale Mazda has closed, but the service repair center at the Volkswagen location will remain open.

"Our top priority is keeping our employees and the community safe. We are sending our prayers to everyone who has been affected by the virus," the dealership said in a statement.

The Monterey County Health Department said Tuesday that two county residents tested positive for coronavirus, but could not provide details about the patients.
