GILROY, Calif. (KION-TV) -- One person died as the result of a traffic collision between a motorcycle and a vehicle early Thursday evening, according to Gilroy Police.

The police say that at around 6:45 p.m. on August 8, first responders came to the scene of a collision that occurred between a motorcyclist and a car at Gavilan Court and Murray Avenue. Once crews were on the scene, they say the motorcyclist was laying in the road experiencing life-threatening injuries.

Both the driver and passenger of the car involved in the crash were also injured, according to Gilroy police, and they were taken to area hospitals with minor to major injuries.

"Despite lifesaving efforts to the motorcyclist by both officers and firefighters, the motorcyclist unfortunately succumbed to his injuries at the scene," wrote the Gilroy police in a press release Friday.

Police are not releasing the name of the deceased individual pending notification to the next of kin by the Coroner’s office.

The cause of the crash has not yet been determined but police say they are actively investigating the incident. They are asking public who may have more information to call Traffic Sgt. McMahon at 408-846-0521 or the anonymous tip line at 408-846-0330. The case number is 24-3599.
