A lawyer for a woman accused of killing her Boston police officer boyfriend says a key prosecution witness conducted an incriminating internet search hours before the body was discovered. Karen Read is accused of striking John O’Keefe with her SUV in January 2022 and leaving him for dead in a snowbank in Canton, Massachusetts. Jennifer McCabe, a friend of the couple, testified at Read’s trial that Read asked her to Google how long it takes for someone to die of hypothermia. Read’s attorney showed jurors cellphone data Wednesday indicating McCabe also searched for variations of “how long to die in cold.” McCabe denied making that search.
