2 die in Bangladesh as police clash with opposition supporters seeking prime minister’s resignation

DHAKA, Bangladesh (AP) — Police in Bangladesh have clashed with opposition supporters who are blocking roads to demand that the prime minister resign. They want the prime minister to hand power to a nonpartisan caretaker government to oversee elections next year. Officials say at least two people have been killed and dozens have been injured. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has rejected a caretaker government, and she’s ruling out any dialogue with the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party, which is behind the protests. She is warning of consequences if they continue with their announced intention to block roads for three days. Dozens of people across the country have been arrested.
