Capitola City Council to present wharf storm damage during council meeting

CAPITOLA, Calif. (KION-TV)- It will be deja vu during the first city council meeting of the year for Capitola.

On Thursday, the City Council will present the damage that the city suffered during a high surf event in late December.

The city is estimating that $250,000 in damage came in the aftermath of a high surf event that flooded restaurants and shops in Capitola Village.

Two residential units at the Capitola Venetian are red-tagged and the city has resolved two of the four yellow talks that were issued.

The city said a portion of the hoopers stairs was destroyed. Wharf repairs can be integrated with ongoing work there.

The repairs will be covered by the existing city budget according to the city.

A potential betterment project for the lower hooper stairs would involve additional costs but they could be eligible for grant funding.
