CHP patrols increase as Car Week ramps up heading into the weekend
With Car Week taking over the Monterey Peninsula, the California Highway Patrol is ramping up its patrols as the bigger part of the annual event gets closer.
Given the size and amount of people expected to attend Car Week this year, CHP is calling on mutual aid from Santa Cruz, Hollister-Gilroy and King City officials for help patrolling.
They’re looking out for impaired drivers and those engaged in illegal activities on the highway involving high speeds and sideshows.
“Using data collected in previous years, we have also pinpointed ares in Del Monte Forest that have high rates of speed and collisions,” says Officer Jessica Madueno with the CHP. “We will take proactive steps to ensure that speed laws are enforced.”
With this comes a “maximum enforcement” policy for the CHP.
They’re also preaching patience for anyone trying to pass through the peninsula during Car Week.
The highways can get clogged up with thousands expected to be visit from around the world for the annual event.
