California State Park rangers continues to investigate after chaos broke out, Saturday night.
Officials said a man fired multiple shots while walking along Mount Manuel Trail. “These kinds of things are happening everywhere. It’s the first I’ve heard of inside of a state park,” said visitor, Victor Ryan.
California State Park rangers fatally shot the suspect. They said it was unclear whether the man was trying to shoot at people on the trail or at the campground. “I’m glad we weren’t here last night camping. I have to say that,” said visitor, Robin Young.
No campers were hurt when the shots rang out.
Mount Manuel Trailhead was closed to the public on Sunday. “It makes me a little nervous that we’re here,” said Young.
Park rangers assured unsettled visitors that they are free to enjoy almost all of the park and that there are no active threats.
The case has been handed off to the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office. The alleged shooter’s identity has yet to be released.
