Attempted homicides in Salinas trending downward; Police hope trend continues
The number of homicides as well as attempted homicides are trending downward over the last three years in Salinas.
This is according to statistics provided by the Salinas Police Department.
In 2016, attempted homicide reports stood at about 115. 2017 saw about 90 attempts on someone’s life.
However in 2018, Salinas Police say about 45 homicide attempts have been made.
“These numbers are a reflection of the activity we see in the city,” says Salinas Police’s Miguel Cabrera. “Although they’re decreasing according to the stats, we’d still like to see those numbers go down even further.”
The number of actual homicides went from 36 in 2016 to about 18 so far this year.
The numbers provided by Salinas Police do not reflect the circumstances in which crimes were committed, including how and whether they were gang-related incidents or not.
They also serve as “reports” which may have more than one person listed on a single report.
