Resident finds Monterey burglar inside apartment living room
A burglary suspect captured on surveillance nearly two weeks ago is behind bars after being caught doing a similar crime in another Monterey neighborhood.
Monterey police officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Casanova after someone spotted a man trying to break into several cars.
The attempted burglaries took place on Oct. 15.
According to Monterey police, officers found 19-year-old Elvis Flores-Turcio in a nearby apartment complex. One of the residents told police they saw Turcio inside the living room of their apartment.
Turcio was arrested for residential burglary and tampering with vehicles.
MPD learned that the burglary suspect was on probation for a previous residential burglary.
Turcio was also identified as the same suspect caught on video surveillance trying to break into a home in the 900 block of Casanova on Oct. 5. He was taken to Monterey County Jail where he was placed on probation hold.
Detectives believe Turcio may be involved in other thefts in the area.
