UPDATE: Vegetation fire in Carmel Valley contained
UPDATED 10/17/18 10:00 p.m: A vegetation fire in Carmel Valley was fully contained Wednesday, but not before destroying a garage.
The family that the Carmel Valley property belongs to doesn’t think the fire was an accident.
Two cars also burned in the fire and the family’s home was barely spared.
It happened at Carmel Valley Road and Country Road.
Cal Fire says the Valley Fire is a hundred percent contained at three acres.
One of the residents told KION that his mom came to pick him up from school and on her way got the call that the property was on fire. They got back to see brush and their garage on fire.
They also had animals on the property but say thankfully, none of them were hurt.
The family thinks the fire was set on purpose.
“We’re pretty sure it was arson,” said Griffin Mattingly who lives at the Carmel Valley property, “Our neighbor, the past couple of days he’s been tampering with our well. My mom filed a restraining order on him [Tuesday], it was probably served [Wednesday] so that’s why we’re thinking he waited [until] my mom left to start the fire.”
Cal Fire is still investigating the official cause of the fire.
