Downtown Salinas has decision to make on open land
Monterey County supervisors are seeking community input on open land in downtown Salinas.
Portable buildings for the District Attorney’s Office were torn down on Sept. after 15 years in the location.
Located behind the Monterey County Superior Court there is an acre of open space.
Now, a decision has to be made on what to do with the plot of land.
“These are rare opportunities because usually properties don’t just come up like this, Monterey County Supervisor Luis Alejo said.”
There are three options for what to put in the empty land: a park, a parking lot or a combination of both.
Parking is noticeably scarce in the area.
“I’ve ran into it before where I’ve just had to park three/four blocks away,” Salinas resident Andrew Williams said.
In a County board meeting Wednesday, the public and workers nearby got the opportunity to give their thoughts.
There is one issue that could stand in the way of these three projects.
“Where do we get the money? All three options are very significant,” Alejo said. “Anywhere from one point five million dollars to three million dollars.”
Tuesday, October 23, the Monterey County Board of Supervisor’s will hold a meeting open to the public to discuss this matter.
The Board of Supervisor’s meetings are held in the Board Chamber’s at 168 W Alisal St., Salinas, CA 93901.
