Man pulls knife on cab driver in Aptos

A late night cab ride turned violent once a driver asked a passenger to pay up.

The incident occurred in Aptos Thursday night. The cab driver gave Ryan Hatton a ride to the Park Avenue area and requested Hatton pay his fare. That’s when Hatton allegedly pulled out a knife and threatened the driver.

“The cab driver was extremely scared and ran away while calling 911,” said the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office.

A deputy arrived and spotted a man who matched the description of the suspect. Deputies found a knife concealed inside his jacket.

The cab driver was able to identify the man as Hatton. He was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail on weapons and threat charges.
