ICE conducts operation in Salinas

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said they’ve conducted an operation in Salinas this week.

Witnesses said they saw ICE officers arrest at least six people near Garner Avenue and North Sanborn.

Salinas Police said they did not receive any notification about ICE being in town. However ICE confirmed with KION that they had deportation officers in the area on Monday but would not say how many arrests if any were made.

ICE statement: “U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deportation officers conduct enforcement actions every day around the country as part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to uphold public safety and border security. Our operations are targeted and lead driven, prioritizing individuals who pose a risk to our communities. Examples would include known street gang members, child sex offenders, and deportable foreign nationals with significant drug trafficking convictions. While criminal aliens and those who pose a threat to public safety will continue to be a focus, DHS will not exempt classes or categories of removable aliens from potential enforcement. All those in violation of the immigration laws may be subject to immigration arrest, detention and, if found removable by final order, removal from the United States.”
