Salinas Police send extra DUI officers out this holiday weekend
The Salinas Police Department will send extra DUI officers out this holiday weekend.
A DUI doesn’t just mean for drinking alcohol. Many of the officers have special training to help them detect when a driver is under the influence of drugs. The department said it doesn’t matter if the drug is an illegal drug, marijuana, or prescription medication; if you are under the influence you will be arrested.
“Some people believe drivers under the influence of marijuana drive slower, ” said Sergeant Gerry Ross. “This is not the case. Drivers under the influence of marijuana have a more difficult time focusing. They often drive too fast and don’t even realize what they are doing.”
Officers expect lots of outdoor activities this weekend, barbecues picnics and graduation parties. The Salinas Police Department would like everyone to plan ahead and make sure family and friends get home safely before drinking starts.
If you see dangerous driving, Report Drunk Drivers-Call 9-1-1.
Salinas PD is still involved in the nationwide Click it or Ticket Campaign and will be issuing tickets to those not wearing a seatbelt.
