Recent storms force closure of some of Monterey County’s most popular parks

Recent storms forced the closure of some of Monterey County’s most popular parks.

Toro, Royal and Jack’s Peak will remain closed until at least Friday, Monterey County officials said.

While the rain has stopped for now, there are still many hazards in the parks, according to officials.

Active slides, fallen or falling trees and streams washing out trails are all major factors in the continued closure of the parks.

According to officials, county staff recently walked the trails at Toro and found extensive damage.

Monterey County officials said park staff continue to assess the damage and will reopen the facilities as soon as possible.

For an updated list of park statuses, residents can visit the county website at www.co.monterey.ca.us/parks/.
