Thousands of customers are without power in the Monterey area and many businesses are in the dark on Lighthouse Avenue.

A spokesperson for PG&E told KION just under 4,000 customers lost power on Lighthouse, Cannery Row, Wave Street and Foam Street Monday night. Crews are working quickly and safely to restore power later Monday night.

There are 21 outages in the city of Monterey alone affecting just over 3,400 people.

Across Santa Cruz, Monterey and San Benito Counties, 28,300 customers don’t have power.

PG&E has more than 3,000 people and 70 crews working to restore power for customers. Crews have traveled from Washington State, Arizona and New Mexico to help in the restoration efforts.

PG&E also wants to remind people not to go near downed wires. If you see a downed wire treat it as if it were live and call 911 immediately.

The Pacific Grove Police Department said almost the entire city is also without power. There is no estimate when it will be restored.
