UPDATE: Salinas police arrest a man accused of shooting four people in Chinatown

UPDATE 2/24/17 10:26 PM: Salinas police have arrested a man for a shooting that injured four people in Chinatown.

According to police, the investigation revealed 20-year-old Noe Chavez was one of the shooters during the incident on February 15th. Chavez is now facing attempted murder charges.

The Salinas Police Mobile Command Center was parked at the intersection of Lake St. and Soledad St. due to the recent violence in the area. Police said officers in the command center recognized Chavez walking in the area and took him into custody.

Four people suffered gunshot wounds Wednesday night when a pair of gunmen opened fire on a group of people in the Salinas Chinatown neighborhood.

Police say ShotSpotter detected eight gunshots just before 8:30 p.m. in the area of East Lake Street and Bridge Alley. Four additional shots were recorded less than 30 seconds later.

Officers say two men approached a group of people and without provocation started shooting. Three women and a man were hit. All four victims are expected to survive their injuries.

Police don’t have a motive and the suspects are simply described as two Hispanic males, wearing grey hooded sweatshirts and dark jeans. They were last seen running southbound on Soledad St. toward Market Street.

Anyone with information that could help investigators is asked to call the Salinas Police Department.
