Rough time for roads on the Central Coast

Trees down, flooding and sand in roadways, downed wires and rock slides. It’s a rough and stormy weekend for roads on the Central Coast and the many people who drive and walk them.

The beach flats area in Aptos is experiencing some street flooding, according to Jason Hoppin, communications manager with Santa Cruz County. He’s part of the team monitoring the impacts of the storm system at the Office of Emergency Services.

The City of Santa Cruz had crews out early Sunday, starting at 5am patrolling low-lying areas, according to Janice Bisgaard, communications specialist with the city’s Public Works Department. She added that they didn’t find any major flooding or landslides. Crews are scheduled to head back out late this afternoon.
