UPDATE: Canister of pepper spray injures 7 at Seaside shop

UPDATE 10/27/15 9:43 PM: The Seaside Fire Department said a can of pepper spray was accidentally released inside Moon’s Gift Shop. Seven people were treated and released on scene.

A portion of Fremont Boulevard was closed while fire officials investigated.

At least 7 people were treated in Seaside for a possible unknown irritant that was spilled or sprayed inside a gift shop, according to the Seaside Fire Department.

At about 3:30 p.m., firefighters responded to a call about a strange odor coming from Moon’s Gift Shop at the 1200 block of Fremont Boulevard.

A Hazmat team is on scene assessing the situation.

Northbound Fremont Boulevard is closed at Hilby Avenue to the gift shop.
