UPDATE: Santa Cruz police arrest alleged “Mrs. Doubtfire” bank robber suspect

UPDATE 11:38 a.m.: An alleged bank robbery suspect dubbed “Mrs. Doubtfire” after the movie character, has been arrested according to Santa Cruz police.

Officers said Brandon Calantoc, 31, of Sand City was arrested Tuesday night in the Monterey County Jail lobby after he was released on theft, burglary and drug charges in Carmel.

Santa Cruz police said they identified Calantoc as the Mrs. Doubtfire suspect after Carmel police located items he allegedly wore including a purse and a locket during a bank robbery April 3 at a U.S. Bank on Morrissey Boulevard.

Carmel police said surveillance pictures helped them identify the evidence as they searched Calantoc’s car on Tuesday.

Santa Cruz police said they were notified ahead of time that Calantoc was going to be released from jail on the charges in Carmel. Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to arrest Calantoc Tuesday night before he left the jail.

Police said Calantoc is being held in the Santa Cruz County Jail on robbery and an enhancement for wearing a disguise.

PREVIOUS STORY: A Sand City man is facing multiple charges after he allegedly stole mail from several Carmel post office boxes, police said.

Officers said Brandon Calantoc, 31, was located after an officer spotted him with another woman, 30, outside the downtown Carmel Post Office Monday afternoon. Police said Calantoc matched the description of a suspect involved in the burglary of a car at Mission and Fifth Street on Sunday.

During Calantoc’s arrest, police said they located pieces of mail, drugs and drug paraphernalia. He was booked in the Monterey County Jail.

Officers said the woman was cited on drug-related charges.
