Salinas council member cited for allegedly driving on suspended license and no insurance

Salinas police said Councilman Jose Castaneda was pulled over on Freedom Parkway near Nogal Drive around 5 p.m. Saturday.

Police said the officers who pulled Castaneda over were aware his driver’s license had been suspended. He was then cited for driving on a suspended license and not having valid proof of insurance.

Police said the car was released to the registered owner, who came to the scene with a valid driver’s license.

Castaneda was cited and the case is being forwarded to the Monterey District Attorney’s Office.

Salinas police said no additional information will be available on this case until it goes to court.
