Police investigate Chinatown shooting

UPDATE 12-18-2014:

Salinas police say a 42-year-old man is in critical condition but is expected to survive.

He was shot in the head by two men;Officers believe the suspects had a getaway driver in a full sized dark SUV. Police have not ruled out the possibility it was gang and/or drug related. Investigators believethere were a lot of homeless people in the area and are asking for them to come forward with any information.

12-17-2014:

Salinas police are on scene of a shooting in the Chinatown area. Investigators confirm to NewsChannel 5 that one man was shot and taken to Natividad’s Trauma Center.

The shooting happened just before 2:30pm as community members wrapped up an all day event to help the homeless living in that area.

The shooting happened near Soledad Street and East Lake Street and all of Lake Street is blocked off at this time, as well as most of Soledad Street. No word yet on if it was gang related.
