Bus in fatal California crash carried underrepresented students
Officials say the high school students involved in a deadly bus crash on a Northern California freeway were participating in a program that invites low-income or first-generation students to visit Humboldt State University.
Humboldt State officials say the bus was among three they had chartered as part of the university’s two-day Preview Plus program. Two of the buses were from the Los Angeles area. The other was from the Fresno area.
The program was scheduled to start Friday.
One of the buses was hit by a FedEx tractor-trailer on Thursday afternoon, killing 10 people.
Humboldt State officials say the other two buses made it to campus. The university is providing those students with counseling.
