Hollister police chase, arrest man in stolen car

Hollister police arrested 30-year-old Rudy Gonzales Monday afternoon after they say he led them on a chase in a stolen vehicle.

A San Benito County probation officer contacted a local School Resource Officer after receiving information of a possible wanted suspect in possession of a stolen vehicle on the 900 block of Memorial Drive.

The suspect was spotted in the car in the parking lot of a nearby apartment complex. The two officers approached the car, but the driver – identified as Rudy Gonzales — ignored orders to exit the car and instead putt eh car in reverse, causing it to collide with a Hollister police patrol vehicle and a San Benito probation vehicle.

Gonzales then drove northbound on Memorial Drive before attempting to turn westbound onto Meridian and colliding with a tree. Officers approached the car and once again ordered him to exit, but he ignored them and fled on foot toward Marguerite Maze School grounds.

Officers quickly detained Gonzales at the front of Marguerite Maze School. No students were involved in the incident.

Gonzales was booked into San Benito County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, resisting arrest, evading a police officer, and hit-and-run. He also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.
