Lottery ticket sold in Salinas nets $1 million win

A scratch-off lottery ticket purchased at a Salinas convenience store turned out to be a $1 million winner, according to state lottery officials.

Yoana Abrica-Gomez, 28, passes the ampm store on Work Street on her daily 20-mile commute to school. Recently she stopped in and purchased a California Gold Scratcher ticket.

As she says, “I just felt it.”

She sat in her car scratching the ticket and it turned out to be a million-dollar winner.

“I was in shock,” she told lottery officials.

She says she plans to use the money to pay off some bills, help her family and maybe buy a house.

The store that sold the winning ticket will get a retailer bonus of $5,000.
