3 tonight salinas police chief kelly mcmillin is begging city leaders for more resources to fight gun violence! good evening, thanks for joing us, i’m jon k. brent. 3 right now, central coast news reporter marissa schwartz is live outside the salinas city council meeting…with more on the powerful numbers the chief is presenting. marissa… 3 soon city council members will hear about the devastating impact of gun violence between gangs in salinas over the past four years.that information will be presented by police chief kelly mcmillin, after data and information from fatal and non-fatal shootings were analyzed from 2010 to 2013. 3 i got a look at that report already. it says 90-percent of 3 homicides are gang-involved, the city has 23 active gang sets and gang members make up a half of one-percent of the population.hispanic males, in their late teens to mid-20s, who are also involved in gangs are most at risk.the report also pinpoints the most dangerous neighborhood as east salinas during the late afternoon into evening. chief mcmillin says the purpose of the report is to help officers understand who the key players are, to then focus their efforts on stopping the violence. 3 chief mcmillin says an important part of this report is understanding the relationships between the different gangs.he also explains the department needs more resources, meaning more officers and better equipment, to reduce violence in salinas. the department has seen a number of budget cuts over the past few years. city leaders are still discussing the concept of an increase in the local sales tax to bring in more money for law enforcement. live in salinas, ms yccn.
