Four King City Police Officers Opt To Postpone Arraignments

SALINAS, Calif.– Four King City officers and their attorney’s showed up for arraignments on Monday for a variety of criminal charges at Monterey County Court. Bobby Carillo, acting Chief Bruce Miller, Mario Mottu Sr, Jamie Andrade, former Chief Baldiviez. Bruce Miller’s brother, Brian, owner of Miller Towing, was arraigned, but no one entered any pleas. Carillo, Miller, and Mottu Sr. are allegedly involved in an organized embezzlement operation, while Andrade is charged with possession of an assault weapon and illegal storage of a firearms.

All five men opted to push their arraignment dates back. Bruce Miller, free on $20,000 bail and Carillo free on $60,000 bond, will have their arraignments set on March 18th. Jamie Andrade who is out on $30,000 bail will return for arraignment on March 17th. Scheduled arraignment was postponed for Mario Mottu Sr. for March 6th with former chief Nick Baldiviez.

Jamie Andrade, Bobby Carrillo, Bruce Miller, and Mario Mottu Sr. kept their mouths shut today, and let their attorney’s do most of the talking.

His attorney Juliet Peck shielded Bruce Miller.

“All I can say is that Mr. Miller was born in King City and served his community ever since. He appreciates the outpour of support,” said Peck.

Bruce Miller didn’t lack support in the courtroom, where an entourage of family members accompanied him.

Prosecutor Steve Somers asked Judge Robert Burlison for a no-contact order. Between Miller and Carillo. Judge Burlison granted the order with an exception for the Millers because they are brothers.

Prosecutor Somers ask that the same be done for Mottu Sr. and Baldiviez, but Richard Rosen, Mottu’s attorney, rejected the order.

“I’ve been trying cases for 40 years involving codefendants and they are always allowed to talk to each other they have to talk to each other they are on trial together,” said Rosen.

Rosen claims there’s no law to provide for no contact, because neither one is charged with conspiracy. Rosen says that his client should not be lumped together with the others.

“They lumped all the officers together as If they were all accused of the same thing and had the same plot to rip off cars from poor people and that’s simply not the case,” said Rosen.

Rosen says Mario Mottu Sr. is charged with one count of embezzling a police car, and he says that car was given to Mario Mottu Sr. legally by former Chief Baldiviez to fix it up.

“They tricked it out as a low rider car, as a show car, and they showed it at parades and fairs,” said Rosen.

For now, the officers are keeping their lips sealed: not talking to the media or each other.
