Warming fire grows to wildland fire at Pogonip Park
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KION) A fire that started in Pogonip Park Sunday has been contained, according to the Santa Cruz Fire Department.
The department responded to a report of smoke at around 2 p.m., but soon they were receiving reports of a one to two acre fire that was growing quickly. Wind gusts were a cause for concern, so help was called in from Scotts Valley and Cal Fire.
When crews got to the scene, they said there was a significant amount of smoke, and the fire was difficult to find. When they got to it, the fire was burning in light fuels and brush and moving at a moderate rate.
Crews were able to extend a hose to the fire, and it was contained at 1.2 acres.
The fire department believes it was started by a warming fire in a 55 gallon drum, and they are still investigating who may have been involved.
