Seaside Police Chief listed as finalist for Oakland Police Chief position
OAKLAND, Calif. (KION) The Oakland Police Commission has released the names of its finalists for the Oakland Police Chief position, and Seaside's Chief was listed as one of them.
Chief Abdul Pridgen was one of four finalists listed. Two of the other finalists are Deputy Police Chiefs in Oakland, and the other is a Commander from the Pittsburgh Police Department in Pennsylvania.
Pridgen was appointed to his current position in March 2018 after serving with the Fort Worth Police Department for 25 years.
During the protests in response to the death of George Floyd, Pridgen stood alongside hundreds of people who gathered at City Hall and raised a fist with them.
The commission's search committee and Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf will be holding a virtual forum to meet and hear from the finalists on Nov. 5. The committee will take action on Nov. 12.
