Salinas Police prepare for big crowds rushing in and out of the Rodeo
With one of the biggest events in Salinas expected to draw thousands to the Salinas Sports Complex, local police are getting ready for anything coming in and out of this year’s California Rodeo.
Police say they’ll be closely monitoring everything going on in and out of where the rodeo is taking place.
In the past they say they’ve had to deal with people who were unruly after a day of drinking.
They say on occasion, though rarely, did they also see vehicles being broken into.
“The bottom line is we try to make this a safe event,” says Salinas Police Officer Miguel Cabrera. “After all it is a family event.”
A command center is posted at the Salinas Sports Complex as festivities kick off.
That command post will also be used for anyone who needs help if they lose track of their child at the rodeo.
“We have measures so if someone gets separated from their children, they’ll be taken to the command center,” says Officer Cabrera.”
Police have the task of keeping tabs on both pedestrian and vehicle traffic as the event begins and ends on each day.
Officers will be communicating with each other about people who appear to be misbehaving inside the rodeo.
Anyone acting inappropriately may see themselves escorted out of the Salinas Sports Complex.
Police say having fun is still possible, but being responsible and having a plan to get home if you’ve been drinking is a must.
