Hundreds of vehicles involved in side show in Gilroy Target parking lot
Police in Gilroy said they got court orders to seize vehicles after 400 to 500 were involved in a side show in a Target parking lot. Police have traveled to counties that include Monterey and Santa Cruz to seize vehicles that may have been involved.
The side show happened on Oct. 11. Police said it was large and organized, but was very dangerous because while cars were doing donuts and burnouts, hundreds of spectators stood around to watch. Police said the businesses in the area were still open.
The department’s Anti-Crime Team has been investigating that side show as well as others, and court orders for seizures have taken officers to Monterey, Santa Cruz and Santa Clara Counties.
The orders signed by a Santa Clara County judge allows officers to seize and remove vehicles involved in side shows for 30 days. Owners also have to pay release fees as well as tow and impound fees for 30 days before the vehicle is released.
Police are getting more seizure orders and arrest warrants for those they believe were involved in the incident.
