Newsom addresses the state amid growing national tension over Los Angeles ICE raids
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (KION-TV) -- "He's ordering our American heroes -- the United States military -- and forcing them to put on a vulgar display to celebrate his birthday... lust as other failed dictators have done in the past," Governor Gavin Newsom's strong words Tuesday night in an address to the state over continued ICE raids in Los Angeles.
Newsom encouraging Californians to bypass fear as he files an emergency motion to block Trump's militarization in Los Angeles, calling the action a "chaos campaign."
"He's declared a war," said Newsom. "A war on culture, on history, on science, on knowledge itself."
Newsom going on to call Trump's actions an assault on the first amendment.
"This is about all of us... this is about you," Newsom said. "California may be the first, but it will clearly not end here. Other states are next, democracy is next."
