Report: Former Angels employee arrested on drug charges in connection to pitcher’s overdose death
LOS ANGELES (KION and CBS LA) A former Los Angeles Angels employee has been arrested on federal drug charges in connection to the overdose death of Tyler Skaggs last year, according to the CBS affiliate in Los Angeles.
The former public relations employee, Eric Kay, was charged in Texas for distributing Fentanyl in connection with his death.
Skaggs was 27 when he was found dead in a Dallas hotel room in July 2019. The team was on the road playing the Texas Rangers at the time. A toxicology report found that Skaggs died of an accidental overdose. It was reportedly from a mix of alcohol, fentanyl and oxycodone.
ESPN reported in October that Kay told DEA agents that he had given opioids to Skaggs for several years and watched Skaggs snort crushed pills in his hotel room the night before he died.
