SALINAS, Calif. (KION) Salinas police have arrested a 17-year-old for allegedly firing a gun inside an apartment where the suspect, an adult and two children live.

Police responded to a report of shots fired at an apartment complex in the 1300 block of Garner Avenue at around 3:45 Friday morning. When officers got there, they found that shots had been fired, but nobody was injured.

They went to an apartment where a 17-year-old juvenile on probation with search and seizure conditions lived with an adult and two children during the investigation. During the search, officers said they found bullet holes in the wall.

Police said the juvenile had allegedly fired a gun in the apartment and the bullets traveled through the living room, through a bedroom and through a wall into the apartment next door.

They said the teen had left right after the shots were heard, but returned before police got there because the gun was not found.

The case is being forwarded to Child Protective Services, and the teen was arrested and booked into Juvenile Hall. The teen is facing discharging a gun into an inhabited building, negligent discharge of a firearm and child endangerment charges. The suspect's case will be referred to Juvenile Probation.
