Family rescued after getting swept out to sea at Carmel River State Beach

CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA, Calif. (KION) A family of three was rescued Sunday after getting swept out to sea at Carmel River State Beach, according to CAL FIRE.

CAL FIRE said a mother, father and young child were transported to Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula.

Fire Captain Curtis Rhodes told KION a bystander made an attempt to help, but ended up needing assistance.

CAL FIRE sent a jet ski, boat and rescue swimmers out to the scene. They also initiated a medical response.

Rhodes said Carmel River State Beach is notorious for people getting swept out.

The conditions of the three are not known at this time.

Last December, a father drowned while trying to save his daughter at Carmel River State Beach.

This is a developing story. We will continue to update this as we get more information.
