Cooling trend begins Wednesday

Cooler days are ahead, as high pressure moves east and lower pressure drops over the Eastern Pacific and West Coast.

The marine layer will deepen and push farther inland as onshore winds develop. Afternoon highs will be cooler through the weekend.

A couple of weak weather systems will pass by in the coming days -- one on Thursday and another on Sunday. No rain is expected, but coastal drizzle will be possible. Temperatures will remain close to normal through the weekend.

Wednesday: Cooler, with few clouds near the coast and scattered high clouds. Highs in the 60s-70s on the coast and 70s-80s inland. Breezy onshore winds in the afternoon.

Wednesday night:  Low clouds/fog increasing on the coast and adjacent valleys. Lows in the low to mid 50s across the area.

Thursday: Widespread morning low clouds on the coast and inland valleys, with patchy drizzle possible. Skies become partly cloudy later in the day, with a few low clouds near the coast with higher clouds passing overhead. Breezy at times, especially in the afternoon.

Extended:  After the passage of Thursday’s system, coastal areas will warm a touch Friday, while inland areas cool. Temperatures will remain close to normal, under mostly sunny skies. Northwesterly/onshore winds will pick up in the afternoon and could get gusty at times. Saturday will be similar to Friday, but on Sunday, some drizzle will be possible in the morning and you can expect increased low clouds. Some warming expected next week.

The outlook from the Climate Prediction Center for May 6th-12th calls for the likelihood of ABOVE normal temperatures and BELOW normal precipitation.
