Showery on Friday, a cloudy and cool weekend
A passing low pressure center to our south produced extensive low clouds and a few hundredths of an inch of drizzle around the Central Coast Friday morning. Rainfall amounts ran from a Trace to .02” in several locations.
Isolated light showers fell across southern Monterey/San Benito Counties Friday morning, and afternoon showers are likely over the inland hills Friday afternoon.
Conditions will clear a bit this weekend with seasonably cool temperatures.
Friday: Partly cloudy and cool. A few showers and even a thunderstorm will be possible over the inland hills. Expect highs in the upper 50s to low 60s on the coast and 60s inland. Breezy at times for inland valleys and on the exposed coast.
*Beach Hazards* Friday 11 am – 11 pm
Increased risk of sneaker waves and stronger than usual rip currents are expected for the immediate coast of Santa Cruz & Monterey Counties Friday morning through Friday evening.
Sneaker waves can knock unsuspecting beach goers over and into the sea. Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea.
Please check with your local authorities on potential beach closures. Steep beaches will have a higher risk of sneaker wave and rip current activity with greater wave run-up onto beaches.
Remain out of the water to avoid hazardous swimming conditions.
Friday night: Mostly cloudy. Showers ending. Lows in the upper 40s to low 50s at the coast and mainly 40s inland.
Saturday: Cloudy in the morning, becoming partly cloudy and seasonably cool. Highs in the upper 50s to mid 60s on the coast and mid 60s to low 70s inland. Breezy at times for inland valleys and on the exposed coast.
Extended: Sunday will be very similar to Saturday in terms of sky cover and temperatures. A weather system will pass by on Monday. Initially, it looked like we’d see widespread rain, but it really just isn’t organizing all that well—so the trend has been much dryer. We will definitely warm up quite a bit by mid-week, however!
The outlook from the Climate Prediction Center for April 24th-30th calls for the likelihood of ABOVE normal temperatures and BELOW normal precipitation.
