Santa Cruz County heads to the polls Tuesday for a few local issues
SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, Calif. (KION-TV) -- KION sent three reporters to cover the three local counties on election night, 2024.
Briana Mathaw reported from Santa Cruz County on what appeared like a busy night at the polls, voters expressing concerns over some items on the ballot.
Around 7:30 p.m., even though the polls were closing at 8 p.m., Briana reported that there were still a lot of last-minute voters submitting their ballots.
One particular topic that voters are interested in seeing improvements on, included affordable housing.
“I feel like [affordable housing is] a really strong issue this year," said one voter at the poll, Sean. "It's so expensive in this county, so as a single person, it's become more and more and more expensive every year that I've lived here. It's a difficult time so hopefully we'll make some changes."
Earlier this week, KION reported that there was a mistake that left off Measure R affecting around one hundred ballots, so Santa Cruz is saying people could come to the polls to exchange their ballots if needed.
The county said that people wishing to mail their ballots on Tuesday, election day, make sure to bring it to the post office and have them postmark the ballot for Tuesday.
