Halloween Rain Chances

Dry and sunny skies but cool for our Tuesday. Cooler conditions will persist for the next few days, and dry weather is expected on Wednesday also. A deep trough over the West will move east, but we’ll remain in the cool, northwesterly flow. Halloween looking a little frightful with rain chances. So far timing looks good for the trick or treaters, expecting drier weather later on Thursday! Unsettled weather continues through the weekend with more chances for precipitation.

AIR QUALITY: Good

Today: Sunny skies and continued cool. Breezy northwesterly onshore winds becoming windy up valleys late in the day. Highs in the low to mid 60s on the coast and mainly 60s to around 70ºF inland.

Overnight: Increasing clouds and cool again with lows in the upper 30s to low 40s inland and upper 40s coastal.

Wednesday: AM clouds then gradual clearing with sunshine. Low clouds then develop along the coast late. Cool, with highs in the low to mid 60s on the coast and mainly 60s inland as well. Windy up valleys late in the day. Increasing clouds for overnight with rain chances before dawn.

Extended: A cold front will bring a band of light rain to the region late Wednesday through early Thursday before dissipating over the area. In the unstable atmosphere behind the front, a few showers may be possible, but this is likely to hold off until well after dark. As of now, it looks like most areas will see a dry period for trick-or-treating Thursday afternoon/evening. Temps remain cool and the weather unsettled into the weekend with the potential for additional rain chances in the Friday through Sunday period. There is a lot of uncertainty in the models beyond Thursday. High pressure out over the Pacific may nudge toward us early next week which could bring warmer weather. Stay tuned to the forecast.

- Area drought status: Abnormally dry for areas around Monterey Bay northward. Drought-free elsewhere.
