Cal Fire preparing for Red Flag warning issued for parts of the Central Coast

HOLLISTER, Calif. (KION-TV): A red flag warning is in effect for Wednesday through Thursday late evening for parts of the Central Coast.

With this warning, it means high fire danger, and firefighters here on the Central Coast are preparing to respond to any fire incidents. Cal Fire said with hot temperatures, fires are always a concern.

Like the vegetation fire that happened on Wednesday near Salinas Rd and Grand View Drive in San Benito County.

"As we see triple digit temperatures and we start seeing the RH's drop, keep in mind that the grass is still very dry out, don't let the guard down," said Battalion Chief, Curtis Rhodes for Cal Fire BEU. "If you have to pull over to take a phone call or look at your map, make sure to do it in a safe area as we don't want to see anyone hurt along those roadways."

Cal Fire said they're keeping an eye out on all the areas under the red flag warning, but they're going to have an extra eye out in the Santa Cruz mountains.

"we do have our alert wildfire cameras focused on that area they do have the ai technology that will notify us if there any smoke that they see." said Rhodes.

Cal Fire said they have their aircraft and drones ready to deploy for any fire incidents needed, they also have all of their engines ready to go, and their stations are covered, specifically the areas under the red flag warning.

Cal Fire said it's extremely important to stay safe during the fire year.

"We're not out of the fire year yet, continue to monitor your defensible space around your home, continue to work on your home hardening that cal fire has put out." said Rhodes.
