Parole trial for the man who killed Maddy Middleton will stay in Santa Cruz; Judge

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KION-TV) – The jury parole trial for the man who killed eight-year-old Maddy Middleton will stay in Santa Cruz. A judge making that ruling Thursday afternoon.

The prosecutor said she was quote “wholeheartedly” against moving the parole trial out of the county. She went on the say that moving it out of Santa Cruz would be quote “offensive to the community.”

The attorney for Adrian Gonzales argued that the media attention on the case would make it difficult to find a fair and unbiased jury. The defense pointed to local and national media coverage, and it being very extensive.

Jury selection will begin at 1:30 p.m. Monday.
