Salinas man loses limb in fireworks accident according to fire chief
SALINAS, Calif (KION-TV) -- A Salinas man was seriously injured after an accident involving illegal fireworks on Monday night.
Salinas Fire Department paramedics responded to reports of a man screaming near Independence and East Boronda Road.
When crews arrived on scene, they said the man was missing his right hand and had shrapnel in his face and chest.
"This is an unfortunate reminder of the danger of illegal fireworks," said Salinas Fire Chief Sam Klemek.
The fire department said the victim was in shock and could only respond to paramedics with "bad fireworks." The victim was also bleeding from both ears.
Salinas Police arrived at the scene but couldn't get more information from the victim or find the scene of the incident.
"This individual's life is permanently altered because of his decision to engage in the use of illegal fireworks," said Chief Klemek.
