Monterey County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrest one person for illegal fireworks and marijuana
MONTEREY COUNTY, CALIF. (KION-TV)- The Monterey County Sheriff's Office say they arrested one person for possession of a large quantity of illegal fireworks and marijuana.
On June 24th around 9:52 p.m., a sheriff's deputy was traveling north on Highway 1 in the area of Reservation Road near Marina when he noticed a vehicle driving northbound on Highway 1 at an excessive rate of speed. When the deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, it failed to pull over which lead to a vehicle pursuit.
According to officials the pursuit was stopped for safety reasons.
Shortly after that, the vehicle was spotted again. This time on Cooper Road, and a second attempt to stop the vehicle was made. The vehicle again fled from deputies, but stopped later near Cooper Road and Highway 183.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as 19-year-old John Aguirre from Watsonville. There was a passenger in the vehicle, but they were later released.
During a search of the vehicle, deputies found that Aguirre had a large quantity of illegal fireworks in the car. He was also found to be transporting over two pounds of marijuana, along with packaging and distribution material.
Aguirre was booked into the Monterey County Jail for multiple violations, including felony vehicle evading, possession of dangerous fireworks and possession of marijuana for the purpose of sales. His bail was set at $30,000.
